I’m screening my video “Dualism” at the 2nd VAFA.

The 2nd VAFA (Video Art For All) – organized by Art For All Society(AFA) and Fundação Oriente – will be held at the Temporary Exhibitions Gallery and auditorium of Casa Garden – Fundação Oriente from 2nd  to 31st  of December, 2011. Opening will be held at 6:30p.m.on 2nd December at the Fundação Oriente.

The Second International Open Call Festival for Video Art in Macau received 165 submissions from 99 artists with origins in 38 countries from all over the world. The four regions of China – Mainland (7),Macau (6), Hong Kong (6) Taiwan (6) – totalizing 25 artists presents the largest number of artists in competition. USA comes second with 15 and Portugal third with 9.Other countries include Germany, Sweden, England, Italy, Turkey,India, Singapore and Chile.

The works submitted provided an exceptional debate between the members of the jury validating the very diverse and unique creative force behind today’s video art.

After a close examination on the submitted works the jury composed of artists and curators: João Vasco Paiva from Hong Kong, Alice Kok and José Drummond from Macau. The jury all agree to award the piece “All That Glitters” from Portuguese born and Berlin resident artist Rui Calçada Bastos. Rui Calçada Bastos – that has a close relationship with Macau and had exhibited in 2010 with AFA – entered the competition with one of his most appealing, mysterious and contemplative video works instantly winning the appreciation of the jury. Besides, within the top 10 of VAFA 2011 are Alessandro Rolandi(Italy/China), Chris Dupuis (Canada), Christoph Oertli(Switzerland), Jean-Michel Roland(France), João Felino (Portugal), Jonas Nilsson (Sweden), Jorge Catoni(Chile),Liao Chi Hu(Taiwan), Piyarat Piyapongwiwat (Thailand).

SIMULTAN FESTIVAL 2011 – Imaginary
6-8 oct. Timisoara, Romania
Sinagoga din Cetate, Cinema Studio, Casa Artelor

DETAILS AND PROGRAM:
http://www.simultan.org/festival
————————–————————–————————–—————

The Simultan Festival is an annual festival for video, media art, experimental music and a/v projects.
The festival wishes to sustain and to stimulate the creative ways of the most modern visions of perceiving and recording the cultural realities in contemporary art. It presents the current processes and the way in which technology and society give rise to new forms of artistic expression by using the new media.

In the seventh edition of Simultan Festival, we would like to explore the possibilities and the limits of the imaginary. We are interested in the ways in which the circumstances of the real world that we inhabit determine the forms of the imaginary, and we want to make this interest visible both in the selection criteria for the videos that will be presented in the festival, as well as in the events of the festival. We wish to ask questions such as: Whose imaginary shapes the future? or What nurtures imagination in a world in which information that we have access to is filtered through search engines and it is manipulated through mass media?

LIVE PERFORMANCE PROJECTS (as in the program) – at Sinagoga din Cetate

TIGRICS (HU)
-> http://www.simultan.org/en/2011/liveperformance.html#tigrics
Róbert Bereznyei (born Tata, Hungary, 1975) is a prolific and highly consistent electronic musician hailing from Budapest, Hungary.
Highly regarded as one of the best eastern european producers of experimental music, his music has taken him all over europe, playing at festivals and clubs alongside the likes of Keith Fullerton Whitman, Leafcutter John, Ceephax Acid Crew, Frog Pocket, Shitmat and many more. He has released a number of past albums on smaller european labels.

YVAT /boltfish, U-cover (RO)
-> http://www.simultan.org/en/2011/liveperformance.html#yvat
After 10 years of electronic music, and more than 25 released albums yvat might be considered one of the most vivid and productive exponents of the IDM scene, in Eastern Europe. His music is mature and highly developed, yet retains a fresh and experimental edge; the sound is always strong and clear, with an analogue profoundness, and composition has an aggressive touch in the framework of a melodic geometry reminding of Boards of Canada and early works from Autechre. Music is built on a combination of complex glitchy beat programming, darkly atmospheric textures and subtle melodic elements.
In the past years, yvat’s music has been produced by well known experimental labels from U.K., as Boltfish Recordings or Cactus Island.[...]

DANIEL DOROBANTU & FELIX PETRESCU (RO)
“As far as we remember”
http://www.simultan.org/en/2011/liveperformance.html#dorobantu-petrescu
If compared to their biological age, D & F know each other for a very long time. More than half their lifetime. Since the proverbial times of the “Circle of Calculators”, first local official assembly for geeks in Timisoara.
Their bond become even stronger once F tried to double the size of D’s hard disk using some occult software of the time. It was a failure and so D was forced to initiate himself into the ways of the system reinstallation.[...]

ALPHA BITE (RO)
-> http://www.simultan.org/en/2011/liveperformance.html#alpha-bite
Music is not precisely defined spatial and melodic sounds categorized as the perfect mix to make the `experimental pure fantasy to dream about.
For those who want to listen at home or in the headphones at a club and this genre of sound that can be included in their playlist the kind of music that relies on all `imaginary and beyond.

‘megatsunami’ by OTOLAB (IT)
http://www.simultan.org/en/2011/liveperformance.html#otolab
Megatsunami is a live performance that has been realized using Lumanoise (a self-built instrument), strobe lights, laser and cold or incandescent lamps.
Modulating the diverse lighting sources largely through improvisation, the performers stratify sound and light waves and organize a rhythmically obsessive liveset characterized by an electrical, noise and industrial sound.
The outcome is a powerfully sensorial synaesthetic experience, both hypnotic and perceptively stimulating through the perfect synchronization between sound and light.

PLEQ (PL)
-> http://www.simultan.org/en/2011/liveperformance.html#pleq
Pleq is the solo project of Bartosz Dziadosz,an experimental musician who combines elements of drone, down tempo, glitch and modern classical. He creates his work by fusing together independently synthesized sounds, often incorporates violin, the unexpectedly melancholic sound of a piano, sometimes female vocals.
Somewhere, something falls, something enters, rings… there’s a hissing and pop, like a short circuit on high voltage lines. Carried by strong focus, Pleq’s style is remarkably consistent, and may be described as: Glitch & Melancholy.”

SOMNOROASE PASARELE* (RO)
-> http://www.simultan.org/en/2011/liveperformance.html#somnoroase-pasarele
Somnoroase Pasarele a aparut in 2007, si reprezinta cautarile in zona muzicala a doi artisti plastici Gili Mocanu si Elena Albu.
-> http://www.simultan.org/en/2011/liveperformance.html#to
Artist-composer and self-taught musician, Thomas Tilly uses the microphone as his main instrument of work. In 2001 he creates Tô, a solo project of concrete music focusing on environmental sounds and foundobjects manipulations. In this view, the composition and publication on disc of such sound material have to be considered as a sonic synthesis of a place during a certain periode of time. (N.B. this method requires to stay, observe and study the architectural aspects of the place in order to formulate a personal view and interpretation of it).
The knowledge of Thomas Tilly is also used for sound-installations allowing to develop and enlarge the logic of specific datas collected in a place – via various systems of triggering/diffusion in situ.

PRESENTATION/LECTURE

SÂMBĂTA SONORĂ / a presentation by Octav Avramescu
-> http://www.simultan.org/en/2011/lectures.html#sambatasonora
Sambata Sonora is a place for experiments in listening, a passageway to another kind of structure, context, attitude, (com)position, history, curiosity, silence or concentration.
We want to open doors and not only to be right, to see how much we trust taste, but to remain unattached, to survey academism and return all the more credibly to experimentation, to contradict ourselves through enthusiasm and to provoke answers.
We want to imagine that one day there will be a sound and music research lab, an experimental radio, a sound art class at some school, another stage for new music around here.

Video Art Festival Miden 7, 8, 9 July 2011.

I’m participating with the video Dualism at this years festival.

Full program

Festival Miden 2011

Video Art: A survival guide

More dynamic than ever Festival Miden is ready again to present an intriguing selection from the global production of video art by young and aspiring artists. A production that the festival follows systematically 7 years now, giving its audience the opportunity to obtain a holistic view of an art form that is evolving unexpectedly, rapidly and diversely at this very moment.

Kalamata’s video art festival, that this year reached more than 1000 submissions from all around the globe, promises a 3 day fest of worldwide contemporary video creation while at the same time suggesting a unique survival guide to extreme overflow of images we face today.

Festival Miden 2011 will take place 7-9 of July at the picturesque neighbourhood of the Historic Centre of Kalamata, Amfias square, with free entrance for the public, combining with its unique way the popular Greek summer open cinema with contemporary art.

In its 3 day events, Festival Miden will present 189 selected videos from 45 countries. They represent the most sharp and interesting thoughts, aesthetic explorations, experimentations and questionings, as well as expressive forms and trends that are “happening now” in the most uneasy minds worldwide, transcending boundaries or restrictions.

The screenings include the themed video art programs “LOL”, “THIS IS WAR”, “TRAUMA”, “HYPERFORM”, “MONOBALANCE”, “A LAST INSTRUCTION TO THE GRASS”, “CHARGE A SOUL”, “DARK FORWARD”, “FEELING LUCKY” and “LOCAL CALLING”. Also, this year Festival Miden will present tributes to some very interesting foreign festivals, art groups and curators such as Oslo Screen Festival (Norway), All Art Now (Syria), Cyberbrothers (Russia), Videoplay (Argentina) and CologneOFF (Germany).

Furthermore, several interesting parallel events are scheduled, including a special screening of the themed program “Come to Life” at the Archaeological Museum of Messenia, an introductive lecture about Video Art History by Gioula Papadopoulou at the Municipal Conservatory of Kalamata, while the closing event of the Festival will be the special audiovisual party set “The New Style”, in which DJ Blue Lagoon from the well-known Greek art group Kormoranos mixes on stage music and videos that he and his partner Haris Lagousis have edited.

Screening in Madrid tomorrow.

My Film Dualism will be screened at the Transfera Video Art TV that broadcasts in Madrid, Spain, June 3-4.
http://www.transfera.es/

The theme is H20

As the water circulates, evaporates, rains and freezes, the video art emphasized in this program acts as an abyssal sounder in the turbulent depths of the human confusion by means of a cycle of collecting, disguising and dispersion, in the shape of capillary waves (spiral), of the observed/investigated object.

/ press release

The group show “body no / body” is a proposal by Bertrand Grimont and Samy da Silva, which explores parts of a territory and myth associated with certain representations of the human body in contemporary practices. With a cycle of videos and visual pieces that reflect the body as assemblage, as a device where the imagination constructs signals and where the experience and the myth produce forms.

Three main themes approached: interiority, imagination and the body itself as a receiver and transmitter signs.
